Xiapu Nuclear Power Plant

The Xiapu Nuclear Power Plant is a multi-reactor nuclear project, planned to include high-temperature gas-cooled reactors (HTGR), fast reactors (FR), and pressurized water reactors (PWR). It serves as a key demonstration project for the development of China’s nuclear power technology.

Located on Changbiao Island in Xiapu County, Ningde City, Fujian Province, China, the Xiapu Nuclear Power Plant is designed as a multi-reactor nuclear facility integrating various reactor types. This project plays a crucial role in advancing China’s nuclear energy technology.
The PWR units at Xiapu adopt the "Hualong One" technology, while the HTGR and fast reactors belong to fourth-generation nuclear power technologies, offering enhanced safety and improved nuclear fuel utilization efficiency.
The preliminary work for Xiapu Nuclear Power Plant is fully underway, including environmental impact assessments, public communication, and site protection. In 2022, the off-site infrastructure construction for the China Huaneng Xiapu Nuclear Power Base officially commenced, marking a significant milestone in the project’s development. The fast reactor demonstration project was expected to be completed in 2023, while the first phase of the PWR project is progressing steadily.
The construction of Xiapu Nuclear Power Plant is of great significance to the sustainable development of China’s nuclear energy sector.
